Samet Şevki’s Story Meral Ergün, Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Vocational and Technical High School , Istanbul, Turkiye Samet’s uncle Murat Akbaş was the one who survived from 1999 earthquake..He is telling us his story on that night.. Akbaş was 25 years old in the 99 earthquake. The house he lived in was destroyed, he was left under the rubble with his wife and child. "We went to the living room that night because it was a little cooler than ever. We made a mattress. I even got angry with my son.I told him, “you don't keep us up, you always wake up at the same time, are you afraid of something”. At that moment, there was a light. A very interesting sound that I have never heard. That night, my mind suddenly went away, because my child was crying, my son was close to 3 years old. You open your eyes and it's dark.
